American Military Conducts Lethal Attack in Pacific, Resulting in 4 Deaths
As stated by a senior military official, the American armed forces carried out a lethal kinetic engagement on a vessel in the eastern Pacific, resulting in the deaths of four individuals.
“A US joint task force carried out a lethal kinetic strike on a vessel operated by a Designated Terrorist Organization in open sea. Intelligence confirmed the vessel was traveling along a established drug smuggling route and was involved in illicit drug transport. All four male drug traffickers were eliminated, and no American forces were harmed.”
Context and Prior Actions
This announcement follows a day after a declaration regarding a naval blockade of all sanctioned oil tankers entering and leaving Venezuela. In that announcement on online platforms, the American leader accused Venezuela of using oil profits to fund narcotics smuggling and criminal activities, pledging to escalate the military buildup.
Only on Tuesday, US defense officials stated it had conducted strikes on three boats suspected of smuggling narcotics in the Pacific, killing eight people. Since 2 September, more than 20 military engagements have killed at least 99 individuals, most off the coast of Venezuela.
Administration Justifies Tactics Amidst Pressure
The administration has faced increasing pressure to release video of a September 2nd vessel attack. However, officials have refused to do so. The administration has defended its efforts as a successful operation, arguing it has prevented drugs from reaching US shores and has dismissed concerns that it is stretching the limits of legal military action.
While the administration has stated the operation is about halting drugs destined for the US, comments from a senior aide appeared to suggest a broader political aim. In a recently published interview, the chief of staff said the leader “aims to keep on blowing boats up until the Venezuelan president surrenders or concedes.”
This suggests the military campaign may be linked to a push to oust Venezuela's current leadership.
